She Sheds Ideas and Pictures

She Shed in Back Garden

The She Shed

She Shed Ideas Interior

He's got his man-cave (see our article Ideas for a Man Cave) now it's your turn.

The she-shed is the answer and, like the man-cave, can take many different forms. But it should be a reflection of your personality.

Your she-shed should be a quiet getaway and easy to get to, so probably right in your backyard. The emphasis should be on your she-shed. Establish the rule right from the start that no one else goes there except by your invitation. A lock on the door is a must.

Ideas for a Man Cave

The Original Man Cave

Man Cave Decor Ideas

Man Cave with Bar and Pool Table

Man caves have multiple purposes. They are a place to be alone, to indulge in hobbies, and to hang out with male friends.

It is by definition (though not always in practice) a male-only space where the man of the house can retreat to watch sports matches and play games such as pinball, pool and poker. Or just to hang out with friends.

According to psychiatrist and author Scott Haltzman, it is important for a man to have a place to call his own. A male area that he can retreat to, where he feels in control. It is a place where other people's sensibilities about standards of tidiness are not necessarily observed. Rules are relaxed.

How to Create the Country Cottage Look

The Country Cottage Look

The Country Cottage

There are three images that the words "Country Cottage" bring to mind.

  1. The cottage itself
  2. The country cottage interior decor, particularly the kitchen and
  3. The country cottage garden.

The Cottage Itself

Country Cottage Exterior

There are many different home styles that fit the image of a country cottage, but the one thing associated with all of them is that they feel welcoming.

The Color Wheel: Your New Best Friend

Bedroom Complementary Color Wheel

Color Wheel Organization

Color Wheel Primary Secondary Tertiary Colors

There are many ways of choosing what colors to combine within your color scheme, but they all come back to the color wheel.

Further on in this article, I'll take you through

  • Monochromatic Colors
  • Complementary Colors
  • Analogous Colors and the
  • Triad Color Scheme.

The color wheel shows us how colors naturally combine, blend and contrast.

The natural world does it brilliantly and we'll look at some examples of those but we can break it down quite logically. The color wheel is divided into 12 colors and three categories: primary, secondary and tertiary.

Living Room Color Schemes

Yellow and Grey Decor

A Warm and Inviting Living Room Color Scheme.

Yellow and White Daisies

Did you know that the first color that babies recognize is yellow? It's believed that it's because of our instinctive relationship with life-giving sun's rays. Flowers use it to attract bees, ensuring pollination and continuation of the species.

It's no wonder that yellow makes us feel happy.

This makes it an ideal choice as a highlight for our living room color scheme. And while there are many complimentary colors to use with it, including black and white, grey remains my favorite. The combination is just so elegant, warm and inviting.

Bathroom Design Ideas

Stylized Bathroom

It's a common experience among creative people that they do some of their best thinking in the bathroom. This is because although bathroom use is for showering, shaving, applying makeup and so on, it's also where you relax. How much you relax is governed by your bathroom's ambience. If you’re tired of walking into your dated bathroom and dream of a change, I’ve got bathroom design ideas for you that are inexpensive and simple to do.

Bathroom Design Ideas: Lighting

Bathroom with Different Lighting

Lighting is probably the most important upgrade you can make to your bathroom. Lighting and color have a profound effect on our mood and upgrading them is a worthwhile investment. Changing your lighting is not difficult or expensive to do, but makes your bathroom look fresher and larger.

Older lighting fixtures and fluorescent lighting cast unattractive shadows and create odd and unattractive skin tones. Changing the fixtures, either to something ultra modern or to an attractive retro look can have an amazing effect on how you feel in your bathroom. If changing the fixtures isn’t an option, you can just upgrade your bathroom with some of the new fluorescent bulbs that are similar in color warmth to the light cast on a bright, sunny day.

How to Use Red in Your Home

Using Red for Interior Design Impact

There's no doubt that red makes a bold statement in any interior scheme. It’s a very energetic color and is often used to bring warmth and life to a room.

Red is the symbolic color of love, romance and passion.

High-octane orange-tinted tones make you feel energised and alive, while subtler purplish shades such as burgundy and maroon can create a cosy mood and inject a regal touch to a room.
